Director's Notes |
It could be said that One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is the story of the anarchist that is hidden in all of us, that rebellious spirit that refuses to be stifled by authority. But this is more than just the story of the battle between R. P. McMurphy and Nurse Ratched and Chief Bromden; every character in this play, from the patients to the staff to those outside the walls of Kesey's institution, has their ownwonderful story to tell, their own battle to fight. Each person, in his or her own way, must find the courage to live life on their own terms.
How do you bring anarchy to the disciplined world of the theatre? You start with a talented, dedicated group of actors who have the courage to confront the darkness that lives in all of us with fearless joy and love for each other. You call upon wonderful designers who then add wood, paint, lights, sound and music to create the world for the actors and the audience.
It's fun to tell stories in the dark. To celebrate what it means to be a human being, our precious individuality and that equally precious connection that brings us all together. Welcome to our story.
